THE CREATORS X JORGE SUÁREZ KILZI

THE CREATORS X JORGE SUÁREZ KILZI

"The Creators" is a tribute to the artist and their work. It offers us the opportunity to peek into their studios, homes, and corners of the world, full of remnants, the smell of wood or pigments, and to learn how it all began, to hear them speak of their craft with passion and respect as if each piece were a conversation with the world.

In this second edition, we visit artist Jorge Suárez Kilzi, founder of the KILZI design studio, a project born from a life marked by constant migration between East and West. His creations, though completely constructed, still seem like sketches; they feel alive.

"Paper and pencil, paper and pen are the main things to start creating, let's say it's a childish exercise, but with a lot of life experience. I simply don't make such a sharp distinction between what can excite an adult and what can excite a child." The artist, born in Venezuela, adopts his Syrian mother's surname as a tribute, and it is thanks to his diverse cultural and territorial experiences, and his architectural training, that his unique designs are born.

"I believe that from this more sensitive and intimate inner world, I have always felt a certain attraction to traditional Japanese arts, but also to the post-metabolist movement led by people like Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa, or Junya Ishigami, with whom I had the good fortune to work. This combination of extreme naturalness and expressiveness together with the contained and controlled Japanese character, connects a lot with my way of working: focused on small things and somewhat self-absorbed, but with a deep sensitivity."

Each piece holds a profound symbolic meaning for Jorge. From a very early age, he has conceived his creations as everyday companions; that's why he perceives them as living beings. This is where his unique silhouette designs, full of texture and movement, originate.

"My designs are born from the need to create, from a creativity that is there and that if you don't use it, it festers, it ends..."
