The Creators is a tribute to craftsmanship, to the author and his creation. Giving us the opportunity to peek into their homes and workshops full of scraps, smell of wood or pigments. And we delight listening to how they talk about their craft, with passion and respect, as if each piece was a conversation with the world.
In this first edition we visit the French artist Isabelle Ymamoto, who gives new life to the old fabrics she collects on her travels to make cushions and other textiles with an elegant sobriety.
"My creative process consists of shaping pieces that truly make sense in this overconsumed world we live in. Designs created from ancient hemp, which I pursue with passion and dedication."
The artist seeks to pay homage to the expertise of ancient artisans, embroidering a new history on fabrics that carry with them other past ones. Each of her creations intertwines her French heritage and her husband's Japanese culture, creating a symbol, a dialogue between two lifestyles, two aesthetics, two worlds... through the language of textiles.
Each piece is cut and sewn by Isabelle, preserving the soul of the original textile and respecting the weaver's work. Hemp is a living, rich, and durable material that deserves to be honored by minimizing its use and maintaining its original patches and mending.
“Regarding our logo, it's my husband's family's Kamon who brings it to life, perfectly representing simplicity and elegance.”
