Voyage. Majorca

An interior journey to the heart of Mallorca with Carmen Ruiz de Huidobro from Españolita.

Dawn in Campanet, a small town in the northwest of Mallorca. Carmen welcomes us into her home, a hundred-year-old temple of peace that breathes history in each of its walls. Its simple sobriety, which has remained almost intact since its origins, leaves the leading role to traditional architecture. A house as authentic as who inhabits it.

Carmen's life is as action packed as the movies she works on. Over the years she has worked as an assistant art director and set designer in major film and television productions. A nomadic life that has made him move between impressive scenarios and dream locations. Her latest adventure seems like the beginning of a new movie, the one of her life, and it is that Carmen has exchanged the extravagance of Los Angeles for the calm of Mallorca. She has settled on the island for a few months with her husband and two children. A return to his roots, those from which he has never been separated, thanks to his project Españolita, an intimate vision of Spanish culture in the form of a trip. His particular proposal to understand our way of living.

"Mallorca is tradition, culture and history"

"...the silver olive trees, the smell of carob and fig trees, the green of the pines, the turquoise blue of the caves and coves..."

With her we have traveled the island and we have known its most authentic version, a Mallorca made with hands that smells of the countryside and tradition.

ARQUINESIA

|

Arquinesia is a perfume sanctuary. A magical space in an old Majorcan house takes us through a labyrinth to explore the island through its different aromas. The love for the Balearic Islands led its creators to start this journey. In its different authentic and natural fragrances we find characteristic notes from different areas of the islands.

J. LLAMBIAS

|

Jaime is a textile artisan. Find and recover old fabrics to give them a new life in the form of clothing. The result is relaxed and exquisite unique pieces, a perfect combination to experience the island. The different textures and techniques that coexist in her garments tell us part of her story.

DORA GOOD

|

In a small gallery in Deià we meet Dora . A potter who works with clay creating unique pieces. A process that begins and ends in your hands and that reflects the balance of nature. His work is a harmony of contrasts with the sole objective of transforming the earth into an object of beauty.

DATURA

|

We continue in Deià and Stefania Borras, Datura 's creative director, welcomes us on the top floor of a small antique shop . She grew up surrounded by Mediterranean beauty and after a consolidated career in the fashion industry she went to New York to create Datura. A brand that promotes slow fashion through a strictly controlled manufacturing process, where materials and processes matter. In Mallorca, where he has established himself again, we know his latest collection, Terra has been made entirely by hand on the island with fabrics woven and dyed on old looms.

CA NA TONET

|

In Caimari we meet the Solivellas sisters, owners of Ca Na Toneta , a restaurant that, like them, flees from ornaments. His sincere proposal has become one of the most interesting on the island. Their cuisine follows the rhythm of the seasons and their attachment to the land in which they have grown is present in each of their dishes.
