Monk's cope, 18th century
Regular price 1.040€Agregar al carrito
Articulated wooden figure, dated to the 18th century, representing a "capipote" —a traditional piece used in devotional and theatrical contexts.
The sculpture, with its naive and deeply expressive character, features a schematic body with movable limbs, probably designed to create movement. The polychrome face, with soft features and an upward gaze, concentrates the emotional impact of the piece.
Although it does not retain its original garments, its iconography and typology suggest the representation of a monk, possibly Franciscan, where formal simplicity and austerity were an essential part of the message.
The structure combines carved wood and assembled elements, demonstrating direct craftsmanship, intended more for function and expressiveness than for academic finish.
Its wear, losses of polychromy, and accumulated patina reinforce its authenticity and historical dimension.
