Carved from an ancient wooden beam recovered in Yunnan Province, this lamp retains the strength and character of materials that were part of some of the most beautiful and long-lasting rural architecture in southern China. For generations, these large wooden structures supported traditional homes built by the Bai, Naxi, and Yi communities, before embarking on a new life as a contemporary object. The base preserves the traces of that past: a deep patina, marked grain, and natural variations that can only emerge after decades and even centuries of aging. The shade, made of handcrafted waxed Xuan paper, softly filters the light and reveals the richness of its natural fibers. When lit, it creates a warm glow that contrasts with the solid presence of the ancient wood.
