Late 20th-century Chinese cabinet (circa 1980s), made from reclaimed solid elm wood, following traditional models of Qing Dynasty household furniture.

The piece reproduces the classic two-door Chinese cabinet typology (liangmen gui), characterized by a vertical body elevated on straight legs and a slightly scalloped apron that visually lightens the base.

The closure retains the typical circular metal plate, known as the "full moon lock," a distinctive element of Chinese furniture that symbolizes fullness and harmony. This type of hardware has been used for centuries in household cabinets and wardrobes, becoming one of the most recognizable visual features of this tradition.

A particularly interesting feature of this piece is the use of reclaimed old wood, a common practice in late 20th-century Chinese cabinetmaking. Many workshops used wood from traditional constructions or disassembled furniture, taking advantage of wood already stabilized by time. This process not only provided a natural patina difficult to reproduce on new wood but also maintained the continuity of historical craftsmanship techniques.

In this sense, the piece is an example of how contemporary Chinese workshops continued to reinterpret historical models, preserving a visual language that had remained virtually unchanged since the last centuries of the imperial period.
